Contested Divorce

My boyfriend has been separated from his wife of 8 yrs for over three years. she lives in another state with his 2 kids. He has has been sending child support plus any additional expenses to her for 8 yrs. they have only lived together for a totoal of 1yr in their 8yr marriage. He has been trying to file a divorce amicably but she has refuse. Now the only choise in to file contested. The questions are: What is the best way to file this kind of divorce since he wants child visitations ect? can he do it in florida state? please advise what is the best approach - thanks
