Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My daughters father and I were never married. Split up when she was 4 1/2 years old, I never took him to court for child support. I then needed help with my bills when my daughter was 13 years old. Asked him to help with support, he said I cannot pay support and afford to live. Instead he said I can move into the spare room and give you the $400.00 that I would have to pay for rent somewhere else. Instead of having him give me the $400.00 I just had him pay the electric, cable, internet, and some groceries. After 10 months he moved his girlfriend in and I did not care but she paid me rent too. I kicked them out 4 months later. I am now seeking retroactive child support and he is claiming I am not entitled since we lived together. I found the statue that he is referencing but believe it is intended for when couple initially split up. Any advice or input would be helpful.
