Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Divorce advice for someone I know.

Hi,

I know someone who is legally married to someone in another State, and they keep wanting to know advice I don't have the answer to, and was wondering if you know. If someone is legally married to someone, seperates legally or not, does not see the person for several years, and then moves to another State, can they divorce that person legally without moving or going back to where the person they are legally married to is? Is there a way for my friend to divorce his legal partner in marriage from the State he lives in now? I'm guessing it would just be a different form in this case if so, that is all I was able to tell him, but did not know for sure. Please let me know? Thank you.

Each state has a different residency requirement. However, most of the time when one person establishes residency then they can file divorce in the state where they live, regardless of the state where they were married.
