In Florida, during a step-parent adoption, if a parent signs a consent and waiver form are they still responsible to pay child support and provide insurance? Or does that cease once the adoption is finalized?
Once the court approves the adoption, the financial responsibility of the natural parent is terminated.
Once the natural parent's paternity rights are terminated, his obligation to pay ongoing child support is also terminated. However, if a child support arrearage exists, it is not automatically waived.
It stops when the adoption papers are signed by the court.
