Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Non-Biological Father has Custody of My Child

Why would a judge grant a Non-Biological Father custody of my Child and require me to pay child support? He did sign the Birth Certificate as her father but he is not. We did not start dating until I was 4 months pregnant. I am not unfit, I am not a drug user or an alcoholic...I am a good mother and I do get to see my child everyother weekend. However, that is not enough for me. I don't understand how he got custody. We were never married either. This has been going on since I left him 5yrs. ago.

Hope you can help...

Sincerely,

Non-custodial Mommy

Re: Non-Biological Father has Custody of My Child

You have omitted important information. Why don't you have custody of your child? You must understand why you don't have custody and someone else has custody before you can take action. For some reason a court decided that it was in the best interest of the child for custody to be placed with another person. Contact the Dept. of Children and Family Services which was likely involved in the process, and discuss your situation with assigned caseworker who may be able to help you. If you can't hire an attorney, contact legal aid or other agency who can help you if you're interested in custody.
