Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I have been paying court ordered alimony since my divorce 2 years ago. My exx-wife has been living with a boyfriend since even before the divorce was final. They announced their intention to wed over a year ago but have yet to marry. I am now hearing that she has postponed the wedding because she wants the alimony to continue. Do I have any recourse and would it be worth the money to go back to court and attempt to have the alimony eliminated?

Depends on the amount you are paying and for how long. If it works out to be quite a bit, then yes.

If she has a "live-in" anybody, let alone a boyfriend, per recent statutory changes, you have a very good chance at having alimony terminated. However, there is no retroactive application. The Court will probably only terminate alimony back to the date your attorney files the appropriate paperwork with the Court.

If you opt to proceed without the assistance of counsel, be aware that you will not be entitled to a do over if things go badly.

An internet inquiry is no substitution for an in-office consultation with an attorney.

If your situation falls within the Greater Tampa Bay area, I would be happy to schedule you for a no obligation half hour office consultation. The main office is in Dunedin, with a satellite location in Tampa.
