Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Power Of Attorney Over a Minor

I want to have my cousin come live with me since her mother died and her father has never been in her life.. If he signs a form giving the power of attorney what is the maximum legnth we could right that for? Or is there even a maximum? She is visiting me now in Florida but her father is in Kansas. Is a power of Attorney something you can fax and have the father sign and get notarized?

There is not any maximum life for a power of attorney. It can last indefinitely or until the maker dies. Yes, you can fax it to the father and have him execute it the fax as an original and have it properly witnessed and notarized and return it to you for your use in Florida.

Please make sure you get a durable medical power of attorney in addition to a general power of attorney. This would enable you to make medical decisions should the need arise.
