What is shared custody of a minor as opposed to sole custody?

Custody of a minor is the parental rights related to care. Under FL law parents have a general right to share custody unless some factor, such as child abuse or negligence affects that right. Parents often have joint custody, even if one parent has the residential rights associated with the custody. Sole custody is when a court grants all custody rights to one parent or person.
