Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

civil lawsuit

My son who is 16 years old stole an item from from CVS pharmacy valued at 14.95, I am now being threatened with a civil law suit for 300.00 I think they are filing punitivie damages for what he stole he was not taken into custody, I want to know if I am required to pay this money, I don't have the money but am wondering what will happen if I don't pay.

It depends on the facts, but generally speaking you would not be liable for any punitive damage liability of your son.
