Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Credit card lawsuit

I have a $4,700 debt on a visa card. Not paid on for a few years. I am being sued by the collection agent they hired. I own a home and a vehicle. Can they put a lien on my home or garnish wages? How's this going to reflect in my credit? I am trying to sell my home and get into another as well.

If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

This will be a major problem for you. While they cannot put a lien on your home, they can garnish wages if you are not the head of your household. Worse than that, this will be a serious black mark on your credit which might preclude you from getting a loan on the house which you are hoping to buy.

Re: Credit card lawsuit

They cannot force a sale of your house. They can record a lien so that it your huose is sold they get paid. Not paying bills, especially substantial bills, will adversely affect your credit and may prevent you from buying other items on credit.
