Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Hand Shake Contract. Being sued for 91,000 under section 772.11 Florida Statutes. Good friend needed 95,000 to purchase a house to live in.

I agreed to purchase property under my name for payment of $1800.00 for 5 years. No written contract. All on a hand shake. I would tranfer title when paid in full. I received 2 1/2 years of payments. Then payments stopped. After 6 months I sold the property for $40,000. Now I'm being sued for civil theft. Demanding $91,000 with in 30 days. Property and friend in Florida. I live in California. Does my OLD friend have a case.
