Lawsuit Filed Jointly and Individualy

My wife and I were served a lawsuit individually and jointly. If we were bothed named individually, why were we also named jointly?

So that any judgment against you can be enforced against your joint assets that are not otherwise exempt or protected from execution.

This is done in order to be able to enforce a judgment more easily against all of your assets.
