Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

Illegal Immigrant Learner's Learner's Licence

I am 14 and 1/2 years old and I came to the United States in August of 1998. My Visa expired and I remained here, so now I am classified as an ''Illegal Alien''. My question is if teenagers with my status are allowed to get a learner's licence. If not, I would like to know what is required to recieve one. I have hear you can take the Drugs and Alcohol test online, which is required to receive this Licence, so I also would like to know what you need to do that.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Illegal Immigrant Learner's Learner's Licence

Hi,

Once upon a time the requirements for such a license varied from state to state. Increasingly, they are becoming uniform. As a rule, you must usually provide evidence to your respective state agency that you have either temporary or permanent legal status in the USA to qualify for one. Therefore, the crucial question is whether you have or can obtain legal status in this country. To acquire a license otherwise may open you up to civil and criminal liability (state and federal, including immigration). I would caution you against this latter strategy. Besides, your license may be canceled by the state if it eventually determines that its issuance was incorrect, as per the above, and after providing you with appropriate notice.

You should contact an attorney who can assist you in determining if your underlying immigration issues may be solved.

Good luck.

The above is not legal advice, representation, or advertising. It also assumes no relevant law enforcement investigation is ongoing.
