Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida

Insurance on mailing packages/lost article

I recently mailed a laptop computer to my son.It was his computer used in school and since he moved out of state requires it for work.I have the original receipt and The UPS Store packaged it and insured it for the amount of the Apple,Inc. receipt. You guessed it! UPS cannot trace it...they lost it during one of their stops or pocessing centers. After 3 weeks we submitted a claim. The computer was originally $1800.00 plus tax and shipping, so we insured for that. This computer had many upgrades by Apple, hence the expense. They have offered $700.00 since it was used and not brand new. This may be depreciation to them, but I cannot replace this unit without buying someone's older laptop or reconditioned unit.I knew I sent off a computer in pristine condition, well cared for, and quite workable.I do not want someone else's junk. I mailed and insured in good faith and was not told that this is not a true UPS shipper, but someone using their logo by franchise.Hence, I am dealing with their insurance carrier, not UPS itself. When I insure my home belongings against fire, theft, etc. I cover them for replacement value in today's market...not year's ago.We cannot replace the files for his portfolio but I need help regarding this denial of ins.

Sue the Store in Small Claims Court and ask for attorney fees and costs. Good luck.
