Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

I have an employer that has owed me $1,100 for over 10 weeks now. I heard that I could sue for double the amount owed, is this true? Also, some other employees are owed money, is there any way to keep the employers from making money on projects and further ripping people off, could a class action suite be better than a bunch of small claims?
