Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Is it legal for a full service restaurant to force the waitresses to wash all the dishes behind the bar in the 3 bar sinks designed to wash bar glasses? I just worked at a restaurant that does this. No human dishwasher or commercial dish washing machine is on the premises. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and gets very busy. The restaurant seat 150 people. All the dishes are washed by the servers in the bar sinks during the shift as they are waiting on customers. I am in Florida, is this legal? If it is, it shouldn't be.

I think probably legal although unusual. How is it different from having you do side work or clean when you are not serving tables? For more information about your employee legal rights you can also check out our employee rights blog at www.takethisjobnshoveitblog.com.
