Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Required to be 10 minutes early to work and not be paid

My employer at a security company I work for just started a new policy making it mandatory too report 10 minutes early to work for role call. If we dont we will be written up for it, the funny or Not so FUNNY thing is that we will not be compensated to be there 10 minutes early. That is almost two hours in bi-weekly paycheck that would be considered over time. The same thing happened in my last job at UPS they made us come to work on our scheduled start time but would not start to pay us until the work start to flow on the conveyer belt that was some times be up too 15 minutes after our scheduled start time t. I think this is unfair my time is valuable and I believe I have to right to be compensated.

Thank you for your help

You are right that you should be compensated for all time spent at work. I suggest that you voice your concerns with your employer, but be careful, as your employer may react harshly and could--although it would be illegal--fire you for speaking up.
