Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Verbal contract

my husband was told verbally six weeks ago that he had 8 months to be trained to take a higher position. Last week he was told the company didn't have 8 months and they gave him 2 weeks notice. If you are given a verbal contract and 8 months in which to train, can they a) revoke that and b) terminate your employment. Do we have any recourse?
