Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Lease

I have a friend who cannot get a lease on a apartment becouse of not haveing any credit history and I'm considering cosigning for a her. I have not read the lease yet, but my question is...

When you cosign is it just for the 12 months??? or since i agreed to cosign can they automattically renew annually without my signature every year after. I'm only interested in aggreeing for a 12 month period and not for any longer.

Thank you,

Re: Lease

When you cosign you get all of the liability and none of the benefits. Understand that if the person you are cosigning for does not pay then you will have to pay. If you still decide to cosign then write in that you are only agreeing to act as a cosignor for 12 months. Remember, you are always free to bargain. Maybe the salesperson will still go through with the sale regardless of a cosignor. Good luck. But I never recommend to anyone that it is a good idea to cosign, if they can get away with it.
