Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I live in a 2 bdr. duplex in new port richey fl. I am currently the only one on the lease but want to add my friend and her 4 yr old daughter. My landlord is refusing to allow me to do this because of a septic issue that she has refused to fix even though she has known about this problem for over a year. Is this a legal reason not to allow me to move someone else in?

Your landlord is not under any obligation to change the lease, septic problem or not. Once the lease has ended, you can either choose to renew with this friend or move.

It is your landlord's propety, and you already have a contract. If she doesn't want to change it, she doesn' have to. As far as the septic problem and your options to resolve that issue, check out this helpful resource on FL landlord-tenant law: http://www.800helpfla.com/landlord_text.html
