Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Real Estate Broker/Buyer Contract

My sister and brother-in-law are first

time buyers. They looked to a Real

Estate Company for assisting. They

were told that in order for them to

assist them in finding a home they

needed to sign some preliminary

paperwork, which consisted of just an

authorization that the broker was

going to work with them. My sister

and brother-in-law only saw page 3

of said contract. Later after doing

some research they found, a revised

version of said contract through the

Florida Association of Realtors. The

broker was still using a 2004 version.

After searching the FREC files, they

discovered that said broker was in

fact convicted of dishonest dealings.

Now my sister and brother-in-law are

binded by said contract to the broker

for a year and a half without even

being able to find a home as of yet,

not that they would want to continue

to work with said broker, but if they

do not continue with said contract

they would have to pay a fee of

$9,000.00 or greater. Is there

anything that can be done since the

broker is adament about not

canceling said contract?
