Is it legal for a non profit organization to pay a member for presenting a demo or program to the organization's members?

Your identification of a "member' is not clear. Generally, it depends on the facts and circumstances surrounding the presentation and its purpose. If by member you mean employee, then you will have a problem with the IRS. If by member you mean someone on the Advisory Board, then that may be possible.
