Legal Question in Tax Law in Florida

I recently purchased a car for 5800 dollars from a private party. When i went to register it, I wrote gift in the purchase price so i didnt have to pay any taxes. I learned later that this was illegal.... Now im really worried. What are the odds that i will get caught and if i do, WHat kind of penalties am i looking at?

The state will send you a notice which outlines the penalty for not reporting it correctly, and it may be based upon the supposed fair market value of the car. If they say it is higher than you paid, get an affidavit or a contract from the seller to prove it was lower than they say.
