Defining the term furnishings

What items might be considered part of furnishings of a home as opposed to personal property, ie., collectibles, antiques, paintings if the term is not defined in a will?

Re: Defining the term furnishings

Good question. That would depend of who is interpreting the terms "household furnishings" and "personal property" if the Will does not specifically define them. Usually household furnishings include, bedroom set, dining room, living room etc. and personal effects include jewelry, clothing, vases, pictures etc. Some may argue differently. Therefore, if there are these type of items in a house that you want to be sure are labeled properly and to be given to someone in particular then not only should you define them, but attach a memorandum listing the item and who it will be given to.
