dying will

To change a house that was willed to two other people into someone elses name, does the house need to be caught up on payments to get started on probate paperwork?

No. However, the mortgage company may proceed with foreclosure in the meantime. If they are notified that the person has died and probate is proceeding, they may be less likely to do so. The two people to whom the house was willed could sign over their interests to the new owner before probate is completed, or even before it is even initiated.
