Re: mother dies

I am sorry about your mother's diagnosis.

There isn't much that you can do now except take care of your mom and get her to make a will no matter what kind of assets are involved.

If or when your mother passes away, you should consult an attorney immediately, if you can and if you haven't already done so (it would be a good idea). If you cannot do so, contact the local probate court and file the will (if she made one).

A more complete and useful answer can be given depending on whether your mom makes a will and what it says.

Do be aware that if your mom is survived by a minor child (a sibling of yours under 18) she cannot devise her home (if she owns it). This is to assure that the children will have a home until at least 18 years of age.

Best wishes.

Re: mother dies

You are not responsible for the bills, the estate is.
