Legal Question in Workers Comp in Florida

I left my job 13 months ago to attend school for a new career. I was informed, prior to leaving my job (from the schools administrator), that I would be able to receive compensation benefits because I was attending school. Once I started the schooling, I applied for compensation benefits, and was rejected, the cause given to me was because I voluntarily left my job, and my past employer won the decision as to ,I could collect unemployment.. It has now been over a year, I finished school, but cannot find employment. I have been to Worknet Pinellas (Pinellas County, FL) but to no avail for employment .My wife has exhausted all her funds, due to my lack of income. I have applied on line, in person, and via mail, for positions that were available, with no positive response...My situation has become desperate, and I do not know what other avenues to contact. Is there ANY help for me?? Why can I not collect, just to help get me (us) by?? Any information you may have to assist me would be GREATLY appreciated...We need help!...thank you for your attention.

This is not a workers' compensation question OR you did not specifically state that you were injured on the job before you left your job.
