Legal Question in Workers Comp in Florida

I work for Publix and am currently on Temporary Partial Disability becasue I have completed 180 days of modified duty and was medically unable to return to any duty. When I was initally injured , I had jumped up from a seated position on the floor and something in my back popped. ( Background: I have had, leading up to this point, 15 years of very heavy labor on my back and steadily increasing back pain which was written off as perks of the jobs.) The MRI revealed sever degenerative back issues and was counseled by the initial physicians, to go ahead and file for SSI , as Publix has determined they would not treat anything outside of the industrial injury. As it stands I am esentially seat and bed-ridden. They sent me to Jewitt and the ortho has been really trying to help but could not treat, nor "officially "advise me on the condition however he has slipped me into a pain management specialist until I am administratively cut 1 yr from now. I have filed for SSDI adn SSI but have been denied twice and am awaiting the hearing date. I have been told by SSI lawyers that I have to be under the care of a private physician who will declare me disabled before they will take a case, but cannot afford nor have insurance. I just don't know what the hell to do. Help.Any suggestions

Change Lawyers. I do not believe you have to be under the care of a "private" doctor in order to receive benefits.

First, I would get a workers' compensation attorney and a new social security lawyer. Many wc lawyers do both. Many lawyers will foot the cost of an examination. You will need a lawyer for the ss hearing. See www.FloridaPersonalInjuryTrialLawyer.com
