Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia

The police served a warrant to search my mother-in-laws house because they were told that my brother-in-law had drugs. During the search they decided to search my truck which is not listed on the warrant. My mother-in-law advised them that it was my truck and I was not in town but they decided to use a slim jim to get inside. Should I drive to that city and get a police report and then sue the city for breaking and entering / unlawful search?

Unless the slim jim or the police search itself somehow damaged your truck, I would let it go. You certainly don't do your your brother-in-law any favors by pissing off the local police who just searched his home. If you raise a stink, it will simply draw more attention to your brother-in-law and possibly you.

THE POLICE DO NOT JUST RANDOMLY SEARCH HOMES FOR DRUGS. They need credible evidence and warrants. If you spend time over there, you likely know what's going on there. So maybe it's not the best place to leave your truck in the future.

Best of luck.*****The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
