Legal Question in Technology Law in Georgia

impersonation and defaming

Some one is pretending to be me and emailing people on a forum I have not been a member of in two years claiming to be me and posting on that board also claiming to be me. He is using an email address with my first and last name. He has provided my name in full as well as my city and state on that same board. The Administraors of that board have advised me to take legal action as using email to defame some one and impersonate is a felony. This person is saying harmful things and lies and attacking others and signing my name and claiming / pretending to be me.

How do I procede?

Do I begin with my local sherif's department? What do I say to them?

Please let me know what I can and should do.

This is an escalation in a previous pattern of harassment and defaming me.

Re: impersonation and defaming

I have handled a number of these cases.First step is a Cease + Desist ketter from your attorney.Next is injuction from court.

Police or FBI won't get involved unless terrorism or child porn is being circulated.
