Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

Auto lease

I leased a car on

Friday after a pre approval process at the dealership. After 5 hours I signed a lease agreement but I was also made to sign a ''Lease Credit Approval Conditions'' document. I drove the car off thinking it was mine but by Monday, the dealership called saying I was not approved because they can't lease to someone with a bankruptcy and I would have to find a bank to give me a loan or return the car. Because I had already had the dealership run a preapproval, I felt that they would not have offered me the lease in the first place. My question is: Is this legal and what are my options?

Re: Auto lease

You refer to contracts you signed - read them (you should have done this prior to signing). It is certainly legal for you to sign contracts and agree to the conditions you agreed to, which in most cases require you to return the car if financing can't be approved. What you "felt" is not relevant - you signed contracts.

Re: Auto lease

Your options are to bring back the car. It's not yours.

In the future, before you lease or buy, do it correctly. Do not go to the dealer. Go to your bank or credit union and get approved. Then take your approval letter with you and car shop.
