Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Twice in 10 days I have had a collection agency contact me about an account that they say I had 16 years ago with ATT that amounts to around $1000. I was overseas and had no access to any ATT anything at that time. According to the FTC website they should have sent me a letter within 5 days of the first contact and I got nothing. They said today the statue of limitation means nothing. They were not willing to give me the ATT account number and said it wouldn't have shown up on a credit report because it was a business or corporate account. I am a disabled vet living on disability from the VA and SS. What should I do?

Write and send them a certified letter, return receipt requested, stating you demand to see proof of the underlying debt. You can also demand they cease all telephone contact with you.
