Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Out of work, laid off & in debt

Over a year ago I was out of work on medical leave after having surgery. Once ready to return to work I found out that I was laid off. My credit card bills sky rocketed & now I have an attorney hounding me about paying them off. I have no problem making payments on this account, but the attorney wants me to pay $2000 in advance, which I do not have! They have been threatening to take me to court & said I will have to pay even more if this happens, plus garnish my wages. Please tell me what I can do to over come this. I want to pay this debt off, but I cannot afford the huge lump sum that they want immediately. My credit was in great

condition before all of this happened but there was nothing else I could do at the time.

Re: Out of work, laid off & in debt

The only way to force someone to stop is bankruptcy. If you are considering that see www.glenashman.com for my free worksheet. You can send a drop dead letter (see Clarkhoward.com) but that may speed up suit even though it would stop calls. In some cases Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Atlanta may be an option. However, I'd suggest getting my worksheet and when it is complete, call me for an appointment and I'll review all your options.
