Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Bond Revocation

My boyfriend was arrested 6 times in 18 months and was given a bond after each arrest. There were mis. charges & some felony drug charges. After the last arrest, the DA issued a request for bond revocation. The judge agreed due to the multiple driving while license suspended charges (he couldn't be guarnteed he wouldn't drive, even if he imposed conditions on his bond). My boyfriend has been in jail for 10 wks & only been to court on 1 charge, 4 others are in ''warrant phase''. He was not on probation or parole at the time of revocation. We were advised by the DA's office that the GBI crimelab 18 mos. behind! How long can a person be kept in custody without a bond for non violent crimes (after bond revocation)?! His court appointed attorney has not initiated a request for a speedy trial and she has not been to see him in the 10 weeks he's been in custody.Would it be in his best interest to request another atty. or hire his own? Is there even something an atty. could do or is he at the mercy of the court, waiting for the crimelab to catch up so he can go to court on the additional charges?

Re: Bond Revocation

Without some "pushing," your boyfriend may well sit in jail for some time. The number of offenses over such a short period of time, I am sure speaks to the court that he is a risk to the community if not in custody. That said, however, he needs representation which will not just sit by while he "builds" enough jail time to negotiate a plea for release on time served.
