Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

concealed weapon

My husband was arrested recently for a concealed weapon in Ga. He has a prior felony conviction in another state for possession of a drug. At this time he is trying to get disability for chonic pain and has been under a doctors care for about 8 years. At the time of his arrest the Dr. had just started him on xanax in addition to the other pain medication that he has been on for about seven years. My husband claims that the medicine had him pretty messed up and that he didn't even know that the pistol which did not belong to him was in his coat pocket, which he threw into the back seat of the car before he got into the passenger seat. and didn't even have on.We don't have the money to hire an attorney. What should we do?

Re: concealed weapon

It sounds like he probably qualifies for court appointed counsel. The public defender's office can probably give him information on the process in that court to request counsel.
