Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Georgia

Age discrimination

I am 54 years of age. I have been with the Police Dept. almost 25 years. I have been a Sergeant for 20 years (in Fed 2001) I recently learned that another officer who has been with the department 15 years, Sgt for less than 2 years, makes $4000.00 more a year than I make. I have a AS degree, he has a BS that is 5% pay increase. I know that there are at least three others recently promoted ( three years or less) that make as much more than I. They hsve around 10years of service. There will be more though. There are others in the department simularly affected. They have created a system that discriminates against the veteran officers and refuse to correct it. We have filed greivances but a hearing was denied on the matter.

Re: Age discrimination

I would recommend that you seek an experienced attorney in your area who handles age discrimination cases. I do not practice law in your state, so I do not know the specific laws. However, federal ADA laws do prohibit this type of discimination. You should contact you local county or state bar association and ask for a referral to an experienced ADA attorney in your area. Most attorneys offer free consultations so you can at least speak with an attorney and find out what your options are in your state. I wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,

John Hayes, Esq.
