Define Lump Sum Alimony and Taxes

What is the definition of lump sum in a divorce. My husb. says Husband shall pay wife sum of $800 per month as alimony. Said lump sum payment shall begin on Jan 2 and is payable each month on 1st for a total of 10 payment period of 10 years. IRS says this is now not tax deductable.

"Lump sum" means exactly that: the amount is to be paid in a one-time payment. What you have described is periodic alimony. Consult with a local attorney and/or your tax advisor.
