Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Disowning an 18 yr old

My 18 yr old daughter defends my ex-wife and her family(who are all 180 degrees opposite from my moral beleifs).I am tired of the games , and arguments.Plus , I dont want her to have a claim to anything if I die(she said she would contest the will.)cause she would share what she gets with them. I want to leave everything to my son. So , how do I legally disown her so that the law would'nt recognize her as part of my family?

You can't stop being related.

However, you can, with a carefully drafted will, disinherit an adult child in a will. It is often also very effective to leave a bequest that is small (the $1 and $10 ones you see in the movies spark legal battles as they are perceived as an insult), big enough to discourage a battle, but small enough to protect most of the estate.

The best route comes from a carefully drafted will. Additionally, bank accounts, insurance and real estate can be set up in ways to bypass a will. You may wish to contact our office, or another experienced lawyer, for an appointment. Our website, www.glenashman.com , has a worksheet you may want to complete before coming.
