Stopped paying Court Ordered Child Support - Not working
My Ex stopped paying his court ordered child support as he claims he is no longer employed but he still has his apartment, car and continues to entertain the kids during his weekend visitation. My old Atty (no longer in state) told me when we divorced that after 31 days,go to the court house everytime and file contempt papers. Its been a few years, and he is at his old tricks again. I warned him what I would do and he told me there is nothing a judge can do if he is not employed. My kids deserve his support, what can I legally do? I do not want to drag this into the enforcement system as they told me it would need to be 6 months or more since my last payment before I could expect any realistic intervention from them. I don't have the means for a lawyer right now, I have to make ends meet. What can I legally do? Oh and not to mention at his LAST job he refused to advise his employer of the garnishment order and paid me directly intil lately...

You need to continue to file the complaint papers, which you can do without an attorney.

Most judges ruled than an able-bodied man cannot avoid his support obligations. File the contempt.
