Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

"Long Lost" Love Child Who was Adopted out Suddenly Appears": Adult brother & sister have recently been contacted by unknown woman claiming to be birthchild of their mother prior to her 40-yr. marriage to their father. Woman is seeking information, family stories, but we are wondering if we should be wary of anything... We never heard a hint that this child was born (in the 40's). Our mother & father are both deceased with estates clearly settled.

If you're worried about inheritance issues, you don't have to worry. Once a child is adopted, he loses all rights to inherit by intestate succession from his birth parents or their children. He could inherit from his adopted parents.

Moreover, if this child died without a will, nobody in your family could inherit through intestate succession. Instead, if he were unmarried and without children, his adopted parents would inherit.
