Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

Is fcc ban on exclusive contracts in multi-dwelling units no longer applicable?

How can my apt community require me to use internet AND cable service with one company they are contracting with? What if I want to use dial up for internet or another cable company? It just does not seem fair if I "own" my tv and computer, but have no selection in the service provider.

Your apartment complex is violating the law. Show them this article:

and this article:

The FTC bans such deals and the ban was upheld in court.

If they fail top comply, report them to the FTC. You may also wish to see a lawyer about suing them. You might, in federal court, be able to get damages and attorneys fees from the complex as well as their providers.

It is inconceivable that any apartment complex would be unaware of these rulings. Be firm with them. They know they are in violation of the law, and so do the providers. Even if they do work with you, PLEASE make your FTC complaint. There is no excuse for your cable/internet provider to act illegally.
