Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

My wife and I recently moved into an apartment. Due to our high credit score our deposit was minimal. Subsequently we notified management that we would like for our adult son and his new wife to stay with us long term but not be responsible for the lease. They required that they fill out applications and ran their credit. Due to their credit scores the management now wants the maximum deposit, $1250.00. Can they do this? We are already liable for any damage whether our son is there or not. That seems like an extreme amount since the lease is in our name and we are already on the hook if anything should happen. Do we have any recourse?

What the landlord can do depends on the terms of the original lease. If it is silent on this point, the landlord may not be able to collect anything. Consult with a local attorney.
