Legal Question in Family Law in Germany

Child Support

I was ordered by the jugendampt in germany to pay child support for an illegitimate child in Fall of 85. I left Germany in Dec 86 and ceased payment. The mother and stepfather sent paperwork to me to sign her over to adoption in 87 and I never heard from her again.

I was in Germany 4 more times since than, each of them a 3 year tour in the army. I recently retired from the Army and returned to Texas. She recently found me in Myspace and was never adopted. Am I in arrears? Can I be taken back to Germany if caught? If i go to germany on vacation could i possibly get in trouble?

Re: Child Support

I am responding only because it appears you have not received a response from a German lawyer -- who is the person you really need to consult with. In Texas -- IF there is a judgment recognized by a Texas court, then you are still obligated (although there could be exceptions). What you signed might be recognized a Termination of Parental Rights, which if followed by an order, could release you of responsiblity. Find a local German lawyer to research the records to find out what your true legal standing is, first.
