Legal Question in International Law in Germany

Status of Forces Agreement

My wife is a German/US citizen. I am covered under the SOFA as a contractor stationed in Germany. The German Social Ministry wants my financial information (they have my wifes information). Am I required to give it to them and if not then what law or agreement references this?

Re: Status of Forces Agreement

It is not clear if you are with the US Army or on your own in Germany. The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), which defines the rights and responsibilities of soldiers from one country (the sending state) who are based in another (the receiving state).

Some SOFAs, such as the one signed by NATO countries, are multilateral agreements, while most (including the more than 100 the United States has with other governments) are between two countries. These agreements specify tax responsibilities, immigration rights, use of radio spectrum and other public services, and other details regarding foreign military forces in the host country.

To make any recommendation it is necessary to know your status.
