Legal Question in Elder Law in Idaho

Adult child & spouse move in

The ''in and out'' of drug rehab daughter and her new ex-con husband ask to move in, rent free, with 78 yr old mother and 80 yr old father. Father says yes, mother says no. Mother's wishes are disregarded. Father has history of verbal and some physical abuse to mother and children. Other adult children are afraid for safety (physical & financial) of parents, but especially the mother. What can she do? Or what can family members do to prevent the move in?

Re: Adult child & spouse move in

78 year old mother, or children on her behalf should strongly consider contacting Adult Protective Services on 78-year old's behalf.

Intervention is only possible if the 78 year old is incompetent and the person who is going to wind up losing her home may not appreciate that.

Perhaps an intervention between other siblings and rehab daughter would point out what a bad idea sibs think this is.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
