Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois

bankruptcy

we had to pay on a lien placed by an unsecured creditor when we refinanced our home. This was filed one month before our BK7 was filed in 2001. We paid still had to pay $9,000. Is this legal? They were listed in the filing and one of the main reasons we filed.

Re: bankruptcy

If the had put a lien on your home, your attorney would possibly be able to bring a motion to avoid the lien. This would depend on the value of your home, your allowable exemption, and the amount of the lien. While the debt is dischargeable, the lien may stay on the home unless further action is taken.

Thanks
