Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

Discrimination in education

I was a student at Northwestern Medical School. I am of Middle Eastern parentage. I believe I bias against my ethnicity played a part in my being dismissed from the school. For example, during a medical ethics class other students were allowed by the professor to advocate medical torture of Middle Eastern prisoners. When I objected because I partially of that descent, I was written up for being argumentative even though the other student apologized. The incident was included as evidence of why I should be dismissed from the school. Grades were not an issue in the dismissal. Do I have a case for discrimiation? Can the school be sued for my education loans and loss of future earnings?

Re: Discrimination in education

You would have to prove your ethnic origin was the basis of the dismissal. Other than the fact you apparently are middle eastern, what admissible evidence do you have to prove that was the basis? The burden is on you as the plaintiff. You have to first overcome the stated grounds, which probably are more detailed than you presented in your posting, and which were probably intensely reviewed by the school's legal counsel. You'll need to consult with local counsel experienced in the field if you think you can prove it.
