Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Deceased Husband Debts

I keep receiving an old dentist bill for my father. This bill (my father's debt)was once thought to have been paid off years ago. Then my mother visited and the office saw that it was never paid off. She informed them that he had passed recently and they still keep sending statements. Although keeping in mind, my father's credit card was written off once we informed them. Please explain is this legal to keep sending statemens to us? and once a death certificate is provided, can they still harass for this bill?

Sincerely,

KP

Re: Deceased Husband Debts

Sorry, but yes, death does not terminate most debts. You dont give any exact timeframes, but they possibly could make a claim against the estate. It's seems unfair, but if you look at it from the dentist's perspective, he did the work and deserves to be paid.
