If a couple (not married) owns a home together, but have since broken up. What does the primary owner need to do to get the secondary owner off of the mortgage. The primary owner is the one who has been paying the mortgage this whole time.

I am not sure what you mean by primary and secondary owners, but, the only way to have one person removed from the mortgage is for the other to refinance. You should have an an attorney assist you with this, since there are ownership, debt, and tax consequences.
