Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

paid off bills with no contract

I came home one day to find a note saying that certain bills were paid off. in all totally 11k. Now that she is broke she is demanding money back or she will take me to court. She has been desperatly seeking me to sign a contract just this past month and this all took place last april. We had no contract no any agreement that I had to pay her back. Im not the only one she gave lots of money to. Also she didnt work in the time we were together, she just lived off her inheritance....will she win if this goes to court?

Re: paid off bills with no contract

This sounds like a very unfortunate situation. You are probably safe since the original money was given as a gift. And even if she was not giving you a gift, she was paying off bills at a place where she lived. Good luck.
